LEITI Strengthens Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Extractive Sector Governance
In a move to ensure the EITI process in Liberia remains inclusive and supports the Government’s National Development Agenda, the LEITI Head of Secretariat welcomed Hon. Samuel Dean, Executive Director of the National Commission on Disability, to the LEITI Secretariat.
The discussions focused on several key areas: building the capacity of Commission members on extractive sector transparency, observing key meetings of the Multi-Stakeholder Group, exploring avenues to secure observer status within the EITI framework, and establishing a joint working group to strengthen the participation of persons with disabilities in the governance of Liberia's extractive industries.
On behalf of the Multi-Stakeholder Group, the Secretariat expressed profound appreciation to Hon. Dean for his commitment to advancing inclusion and pledged to continue the strong collaboration between the two institutions. This partnership marks a significant step toward ensuring that all voices, especially those of persons with disabilities, are represented in decisions about Liberia’s natural resources.
