LEGISLATURE TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARINGS ON POST AWARD PROCESS AUDIT REPORT
The lower house of the Liberian legislature will shortly hold a public hearing on the  second post award process audit report recently released by the Liberia Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative(LEITI).
The chairman of the House's Committee on Lands, Mines, Natural resources and Environment recently requested a meeting with the Head  of LEITI Secretariat and his technical team  aimed at fully understanding the nature of the report and the findings thereof so as to comprehensively seek the necessary solutions.
In the meeting, held on March 30, 2017, the chairman of the House’s Committee on Lands, Mines, Natural Resources and Environment, Representative R. Matenokay Tingban of Nimba County noted that his committee is interested in the findings of the report and that a public hearing would be recommended to adequately seek solutions to the findings therein.

A further working session on was requested by the committee for Wednesday April 5, 2017 to pave the way for the holding of a public hearing on the issues raised in the report.
The Liberia Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (LEITI) with authority from the Multi stakeholder Steering Group (MSG) recently released the second Post Award Process Audit report on Liberia covering the period 2nd January, 2012 to 30th June, 2015.
The audit is an investigation of the processes of awarding material public concessions, contracts, licenses, permits and other rights concerning the exploitation of diamond, gold, oil, timber and agriculture resources  to ascertain that the process of awards was in compliance with applicable Liberian Laws and international best practice at the time of the award.
With funding from African Development Bank (ADB), the Liberia Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (LEITI) engaged PricewaterhouseCoopers Advisory Liberia LLC to conduct a second post-award audit.
The report among other things, reveals that the Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy, the arm of government that regulates the mining sector poorly accounted for needed documents that could validate the processes of awards during the period.Photos below are highlights from the Wednesday's working session at the Capitol Go back
